A Day for the Lady!!!
International Women’s Day
stands for the equality of women in a male dominated society. This day is about
the empowerment of women, the moment to stand up as an equal, if not the
stronger sex in the society. As far as I am concerned, women are far stronger
than men will ever be. They do not require any special notification from the
society to remind them that they are strong and powerful. I would rather say
this day is like a notification to remind the men of the society that they are
not all powerful as they assume themselves to be. They are in fact no one and
would be no where without the women in their lives. This is not something I am
saying, science, facts and great wise men say so.
A woman is not equal to a man.
She is much more than him in every possible way. God bestowed her with the
power to create new life, for crying out loud. Without women, in the world, how
will human race survive? If she can
nurture a new life for ten months and then undergo the most unbearable pain to
bring a new life to this world, she can pretty much take on anything and
anyone.
A woman is a mother, daughter, sister,
teacher, boss, friend, girlfriend, wife and so many other things. The saying
aptly goes, “Behind every successful man, there is a woman”. She can make you
or break you. Her love is the pillar of your success and happiness. If you piss
her, well, you are at your own peril! She is a great listener, in spite of the
popular trend of being called a chatterbox. She has the patience to understand you more
than yourself. She has the strength to support you and stand by your side
through thick and thin. She is kind and caring. She is strict and disciplined. She
also knows how to rock a party hard. She is the face of love and the definition
of passion. She knows the power of silence and significance of just being
there. She has the endurance to bear the big headed egos of the so called self
made self proclaimed great men.
So we do not need the special treatment the
society thinks they are giving a lady. We just need to be left on our own. If we are so special, then why are the rape
cases increasing by the day? Why female education is still a big concern in
some parts of moronic orthodox India? Why does India have the highest numbers
of human (female) trafficking? Why do we still have dowry system predominant in
spite of being decreed illegal by the law? Why is working under a lady such a
big thing to mention in office? Why is the rate of female foeticide increasing?
Why don’t we need the girl child? Racism is gone in India, but sexism is still creeping
through every wall. So the special celebration of women hood for one particular
day is just a facade for the society to show off their care for the so called
weaker sex. Put posters and discounts for Women’s day, send some pictures and
quotes about the greatness of women and we are done. But we are missing the real
cause behind this. Behind all the glittery jitters, there lies the horrible
face of the truth in cases like Nirbhaya and the thousands of cases registered
for the rights and safety of women. The naked truth is more disgusting than we
can even imagine.
Big talks, aren't they? Ok,
lets go lighter. Forget about fighting for human rights and such big stuff. Let
us keep it short and simple. How many times have you failed to respect a woman
in your life? It can be anyone, a friend, a relative, a colleague, a family
member. Innumerable times! We forget to respect our mothers at times, forget
about other women. A woman desires respect first and foremost. Learn to respect
the women in your life first. The problems of the society will reduce
automatically. Stand up against eve teasing, promote girl education. One step
at a time. Today if eve teasing is stopped, rape and cases of acid throwing
will be prevented soon enough. And with proper education, sky is the only limit
for her. Time and again, she has proved herself to this society. Kiran Bedi,
Kalpana Chawla, Shakuntala Devi, P. T. Usha, Mary Kom and many more have shown
the greatness of being a woman. Yet society
stays blind. Yet we have to fight for our rights.
It is said that she represents the word “beautiful”.
She is grace. Her smile brightens up the day for all around her. Her smile is
her strength. She draws strength from her troubles and rises above the dark
gloriously. Now, tell me, would you like to be a part of the society where this
smile does not exist, is not allowed to flourish? Would you like to be a part
of the society where this beauty is oppressed and mistreated? If not, stop
passing comments about the much needed change. Be the change! Stand up for what
you believe. You do not have to go on air for this; you can simply begin by changing
your own ways, if it is needed and standing up for the ladies in your life. Just give her the one thing
she wants most, a little respect and a little love. She will bestow your with
happiness and love in return. Show her that you care in simple ways. You will
never have to worry about yourself again.
And for the ladies, I would say use your
rights properly. Just because you have the advantage of certain specific laws
or privilege of the saying “ladies first”, does not mean you have to misuse
them. Be honest and truthful, to yourself at least. Before killing your
daughter in your womb, think that you too are a daughter and would not have
been even born if your mother would have taken this decision. Be careful. Trust
your intuitions. You are often right.
Other than that, smile, a lot! Your
smile enlightens the day for many. You are the strength and lucky charm for
your family. You make the world a better place.
All I want to say is, girls, we
totally rock the world!!!Stay the way you are. Simple and beautiful. And, oh yes, Happy Women’s Day!! JJ
Hello Trishila, What I could infer from the article is that probably you are trying to prove women are better than men. Correct me if I am wrong but the point to prove women are better than men does not lead to any substantial conclusion. In fact the argument lacks objectivity. The foremost question : Is it required to prove who is stronger or superior? Even if proved, how does it contribute to the society at large? Will it reduce the rapes and violence against women?
ReplyDeleteYour first paragraph clearly makes it evident that you are seriously inclined to prove that women are stronger, rather Men are not as strong as they think, rite? Is it really required? Are you not trying to demean men?
The proposition in the first para "They(Men) are in fact no one and would be no where without the women in their lives. " is baseless as the existence can also be proved vice versa.
Overall the article is well articulated. Paragraphs relevantly explain the context. But the literature needs to be mature. Please try to avoid examples, it has become a cliche.
Hi anonymous, thank you for your honest feedback. But the whole concept of this day is to bring in the equality of women and women empowerment. My point in the first paragraph is only that it is already proven. People just need to understand the fact and correct the wrongs in the society. To bring change, you have to be the change.
ReplyDeleteAbout the literature and content feedback taken. Hope you understand my point.
Thanks again!
Why should women need to be always a Mother, sister, wife or somebody else? Women should be treated as any other human being.
ReplyDeleteTrue... absolutely! that's my point exactly! Thank you!
DeleteNARI D-BOSS...
ReplyDeleteA single day dedicated to women.. but women dedicates everyday of her life..
ReplyDeleteWell.. thank you :)
DeleteVery well written ... Men often take the advantage of our soft nature... If we are strong, we really do not need any special treatment from them. We should not be treated just like a weaker sex but as equally strong as men. In India, it is still hard to eradicate this sexism. We can only shout, pray and expect equality in society and enlightenment of mentality.
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot dear. Equality is also a form of independence and freedom which we are yet to achieve completely.
