V-Day: A Cliché!!
Yet another Valentine’s Day is
here and so automatically “love” is in the air! Literally! You have hearts
popping out of every corner you look. Heart shaped candies, heart shaped
balloons, chocolates, teddy bear and soft toys holding their hearts out for you
and what not. This is officially the biggest sale time for Archies' gift stores.
If you are someone special in someone’s life, you are in for a treat on this so
called auspicious occasion for love. And if you are a single, well, dude, I got
your back.
Can anyone please explain to me
why love is so closely related to the colour red? How did we come to assume
that red resembles love? Never mind the fact that red is the literal colour of
blood and also is the representative symbol of danger, so does that mean love
indicates danger?? Hilarious, isn’t it? I got some arguments that red is love
since love flows through our veins from heart like blood. But then I don’t see
much of love when this blood is shed barbarically off innocent veins across the
world. Does that mean we should thank ISIS for the bloodshed in Paris, the city
of love? I hardly think that can be accepted as a gesture of love in any freak
way! But red is still love.. For the sake of argument, why can’t love be
represented by any other soothing colour like purple? Just a thought!
Modern love has somehow crept
out of the bedroom and come to float around on Facebook and such other social
media websites. Dangerous, right? (Red suits fine, then). Husbands and wives
express their endless, depthless love for their soul mates on their walls in social
media. Don’t they have wedding anniversary for that kind of stuff? But I guess
times are changing now. Instead of sharing these feelings face to face with
each other, they declare their love in front of their social friends to make
them nauseous and disgusting. Come on dude, 90 percent of friends in your account
were invited to your grand wedding and most of them might have actually
attended your wedding. If you feel your declaration of your undying love is
going to awe them, you need to wake up! If you would rather have the guts to
express your feelings for someone to whom you are not married, now that would
be really interesting. Your post would undeniably be the most viewed post. Consequences,
well, that’s your part of the worry.
Somehow, this day has become a
festival now, the only thing left is for the government declaring a holiday on
14th of February. Anywhere in the vicinity of the V- day, you can
only find long quotes, paragraphs of the eternal love between married couples
and how happy they are to be with each other. Newsflash dude, you are supposed to
be happy with each other, hence the phrase, happily married!! That’s absolutely
normal! Then how do these people get these ideas of torturing their social
friends by posting about things which should be kept within two people and not
printed on a newspaper. Pathetic! Does anyone ever post a status where they
hate their husband/ wife? Nope. Trust me; everyone at some point in their life does
hate their partner. But you keep that within your heart when you actually might
need someone friendly support or advice. Where was this spirit of worldly
declaration when you were dating each other for years (in most cases) before
your marriage? The answer to this question is commonly, “my mom/dad is there on
Facebook” or some family member who might see your post which would be trouble
for you. So after you got married, has your family suddenly boycott social
media? Or suddenly your family is extremely cool about your PDA? I don’t find
real time dating couples celebrating V-Day, ever, mostly because of some taboo.
Whatever! Wasn’t this show off part of the courtship? Or am I old school now? Forget
about everything else, do you ever think of your single friends, how annoying
it becomes for them to watch your pitiful attempt at all these. You actually
make them thank their stars that they are single!! I felt I am the coolest
person this Valentine’s day to be happily and proudly single.
All of this hype gives me the
creepy feeling that love is not free any more. We have attained freedom but are
somehow imprisoning love by reigning in its free flowing wings. Again, how can
love be defined to be confined to one day only? Wasn’t love unconquerable,
uncontainable? But, here we are, defining love with words, limiting it with
colours, trying to hold it back in one day, so that the rest of the year could
be dedicated to all kinds’ violence humanely possible, right? Way to go,
buddies!! Why does it have to be just one day? I believe everyone should have their
own colour for love. It can be blue for someone or green for someone else. In
that case, at least you can see balloons of every colour for Valentine’s Day. To
celebrate true love, you do not need to define any particular day; it should be
each day you smile because of that person in your thoughts, in your life. That person
necessarily does not have to be your spouse, it can be your parents, your
friends, your roomie, your besties, someone you just met and it can definitely
be your sweet little pet! If you want to declare your love, do it for all of
them who give you happiness and keep you warm in your dreams. Otherwise, it’s
your life, do whatever you want to do!!
Anyways, Happy Valentine’s Day
folks!! J ;)
:P
Love shouldn't be restricted but u shouldn't expose your love in front of others also.. It's supposed to be a private feeling for each other.. Ur life is not a movie for others to watch.. ReplyDeleteCheers buddy!!!
DeleteTrish it was like a Thought on valentine day and i do agree that you have your on rights of expressing your thought but it should be purely yours, i did felt or it did not touched my heart while i was reading it, but would like to tell you a story you may not like read but still: when the love in the air and both are happy my holding their hand in hand, they used say to each that they can just live their entire life by holding each others hand. They lived they celebrated and final separated but i still know a man, who loved his partner so much that, every year on his lover birthday that man spend his entire day on station knowing the fact that she is never going to return but still years after years the man celebrates her birthday in same pattern and same way in his moments on her each birthday each year. According to many his is just a fool wasting his life and time but Trish that is the love of the man for the lady who even do not care. Still love is love and pure and again that man is not doing something so great, can not be done by others but still he would like to repeat that act again and again as he knew in his heart that she used to be so happy when he used to celebrate for her. So let the love in the air for just a moment and you can see the entire univers felt loved of his each moment, so can just imagine a day of love. I know the man from the bottom of my heart and without giving his true identity would like to just say he is in love and ventingday is just a another day for him to express his undying love, people do wants to express and let them express. It is not that you have to live your entire life some times a moment is enough let the moment lived rather than talked and wasted. About the color specialy red, as per veda the Indian book and tradition, women do wear a red on her marriage. So red is symbolic, too. And colors are many but you can not have many in single life so red is also the symbol of virginity as per Veda.
ReplyDeleteExactly my point Ashish!! This man in your story did whatever he wanted to do for his love.. but it was not limited to one day or one moment. He did not show off to others how much he loved her. That was my point.
DeleteAnd about red in Vedas, red is related to marriage because of pure physics of light and wavelength. Yes, like many other things, Vedas do inculcate science in this thing as well. But I believe love should be every individuals representation. Love and marriage and virginity are very different concepts. My question was only for love and nothing else.
Thanks for sharing the story, it is very touching.
Love,
Trish.
You are most welcome
