Happy Mother's Day, Ma!!!
Ma, Mom, Amma, Ammi, Mother... All
different names of the same person. The person who brought you into this
wonderful world, gave you life and nurtured you with great love and protection,
Can anyone define a mother? I guess not. As the saying goes, “Since God cannot
be present everywhere, he created mothers”. A mother is an angel, who somehow
has an infinite capacity to love and protect her children, whatever the
situation be. This is the established part of the story. On this Mother’s Day,
I would like to reveal the other side of a mother. The side we all know, but
never acknowledge. I know I’m going to be beaten after my mom reads this but these
small traces make her the most wonderful person that she is.
Your mom knows you in and out.
She is your best friend, your teacher, your savior (from Dad mostly) and your
support system. She actually lives her life all over again with you as you grow
up. When you are a baby, you are her toy, your childhood is her mischievous
playground and your youth is her way of living it all again, apart from your
teen age, well, that’s a pain point. But your mom is very, very smart. She can
see right through your eyes into your heart. She knows when you are hiding
something, when you are sneaking out, all your secret places and so on. And she
acts as if she doesn't know anything and she wants you to confess everything to
her! Have you ever tried locking any drawer in your study? Or did you ever try
to hide your secret crush’s pic or some letters in your books? Or did you
imagine that you have a place in your home where your Mom won’t peek into? If
yes, to be very frank, you are a fool to assume so. I was, at many instances. I
did not have any place in my home where my mom cannot reach. But of course, I
never knew this until I grew up. Mothers have a tendency to keep a note when
their children are being secretive and they are far better than Sherlock Holmes
in discovering your secret as soon as possible!! And trust me they grow some 10
additional senses when you are in your teens. Yes, obviously, you are
infuriated then, but she is least bothered. Every day in your teens is like a
red alert to her. She won’t be bothered much, if India is under terrorist
attack, but she would be scared to death if you are 5 minutes late than the
promised time to return home in the evening, especially, in case of girls.
Boys, have some liberty, but, not if their mothers are like my super mom. And
when she is angry, even God cannot save you! If your dad is angry with you, mom
will come to your rescue, but if your mom loses her temper, don’t expect dads
to intervene! Even if they do, it will be without any success. Only she can
save you from her wrath! So, you better do whatever she says, even if you don’t
like it!
There are these trade mark habits
of my mom which would never change. I hate them. They infuriate me to the core.
But, then, I would be really surprised if these habits did change ever. Like,
if I go to a room and lock the door, for what so ever valid reason, that would
be the time when she has to get in that room for something very urgent and she
won’t stop knocking or at times, banging the door, unless I open it. Once I
open it, her work is no longer important. Another one, a very common thing with
all mothers I guess, is high anticipation and total estimation of anything
said. For example, if I say in May that I might have to shift my room in the
coming April next year, then she will start planning; anticipating and
calculating the pros and cons of the situation from the second the words left
my mouth. She would appear very calm, but, the tension keeps on growing inside
her. Actually, moms enjoy staying tensed. They don’t have the word “Relax” in their dictionary. If everything is perfect, they will
be tensed about the fact that there is nothing to be tensed about!! Travel plans are the super hot topic for
moms to be tensed. If you have a train tomorrow morning, my mom would be totally
freaked out from today morning. There is a valid point as she has the
responsibility of the whole household, she has to get up early and get things
ready. But in order to get up early, she won’t sleep at all!! Awesome!
In reality, all these things make
her the person she is. These make me realize how important I am to her. It’s
like I mean the world to my mom. My mother is the reason behind everything I am
today, and I am so proud to be her daughter. She is the most honest, beautiful,
talented, creative and simple person I have ever known. Her simplicity is her
strength. My teacher, my best friend, my savior, my safe house! There is no
problem in my life that she cannot solve. She has always been there for me,
every second of my life as my support system. I only wrote the exam papers, in
reality, they were her exams. She takes away all my fears, insecurities, tears
and fills my heart with confidence and happiness. She is home.
That’s the most amazing fact
about a mother. Their children mean more than anything else in the world to
them. They gave life to us, but now we are their life. Everything in their life
revolves around us. And without their support we would be zero. A baby is like
wet clay, mothers craft beautiful sculptures out of that clay, to make us
whatever we grow up to be. There have been times in everybody’s life when you
hated your mother, you fought with her, and you hurt her and thought she does
not understand you. We are wrong. It’s impossible to recognize then, but when
you do realize your mistake, make it up to her. She can never stay angry on you
or turn away from you.
A Mother is much more than words
can ever describe. But do we truly appreciate her sacrifices? Not really. We
take her for granted most of the times. For most of us, it is her duty as a
mother. I don’t think so. She does not do anything out of duty, she does it out
of her love for us and more than often we fail to realize this. We take her
simplicity to be undermined. The fact that she stayed simple to make us the
smarter ones, is not something we always keep in mind while talking to her. She
never expects anything in return, but what do we give her? What can we give
her? Can anything be enough to give her? No. But, we can always be the reason
for her smile; we are most of the times. We can always give her small moments
of recognition. We can always appreciate her by doing small things like cook
for her instead one day, share her household work, spend on her, acknowledge
and accept the fact that she is the reason behind your success more than your
clever mind, and never, ever, forget her birthday!!! Never hurt her or leave
her out of your life. Moments where she finds her place in our life is shrinking,
she suffers through immense pain. Above all, respect her always. Love her and cherish her; she is the most
precious person you will ever have in your life. Thank her for giving you this
life. Just be there for her always. So, get up, go and wish her on Mother’s Day and tell her how much she means
to you. It is not that she does not know; it will just make her day brighter,
lighter and happier!!
I can go on writing for another
year, but this won’t ever get over. So, in a nut shell, this is a tribute to my
Mom and all Moms and Moms to be. You are the best gift to this world. Happy
Mother’s Day!!
P. S: Mom, I love you, thank you
for always being there!! You rock!!
